CAMELBAK X NICOLE MCLAUGHLIN IS GIVING SUSTAINABLE SUMMER CAMP VIBES
The other week at the Headlands Center for The Arts, tucked between the mountains in Sausalito, California, outdoor enthusiasts gathered for a day filled with hiking, team bonding discussions, and dynamic workshopping. No, it wasn’t any sort of adult summer camp program. It was CamelBak’s first Sustainability Showcase.
Inspired by the innovative spirit of the latest CamelBak x Nicole McLaughlin drop, CamelBak decided to further commemorate the iconic partnership and put some of its products to the test. California’s signature outdoor equipment brand joined forces with McLaughlin to host a one-day event to embody everyone’s favorite aspects of those unforgettable dog days of summer – with a sustainable twist, of course.
To kick things off, attendees listened as McLaughlin and author and climate activist Leah Thomas highlighted a panel discussion centered around fashion, the environment, and conscious climate initiatives. Moderated by CamelBak’s Senior Brand Manager Tim Perry, the two featured guests shared their thoughts on combatting the environmental crisis and gave out tips and tricks for anybody to take action for the cause.
As the morning’s conversation wrapped up, half of the group laced up their boots for a two-hour hike throughout the Sausalito Hills. While some ventured into the mountains, the others participated in a McLaughlin-led workshop, where IG’s sustainability queen encouraged everyone to tap into their inner up-cycler.
The dynamic arts and crafts session allowed participants to use spare CamelBak materials to create some unique pieces backed with actual utility. From multi-purpose hats and hydrating backpacks to water bottle holsters and CamelBak jock straps (?), attendees took their turn stretching their preconceived limits of sustainable fashion.
Following a quick lunch, everyone swapped activities, with one group getting a chance to soak in the views from the hike while the others fashioned the next wave of CamelBak equipment.
The main attraction, however, was putting the CamelBak x Nicole McLaughlin products to the test. From a hydro skirt to a jacket made from water reservoirs, McLaughlin showed off her product-designing skills, proving why she’s one of the best in the up-cycling game.
Commissioning four one-of-a-kind CamelBak pieces, the outdoor equipment company is set to host an online auction featuring McLaughlin’s imaginative work. Slated for May, 100% of the proceeds generated from the sale will be donated to Protect Our Winters; an environmental organization focused on preserving outdoor spaces by promoting non-partisan policies.
