Here’s an initiative that wouldn’t have happened until relatively recently. The collective Debut Studios opens a space at Harvey Nichols in Manchester on 19 June focusing on tattooing and piercing in a trusted, inclusive environment. The pop-up will be open until 13 August within the store’s beauty department.

It’s important for Debut Studios as it will be offering its services outside of London for the first time with a wide range of those services and guest tattoo and piercing artists taking residencies in the concept space.
The full line-up of artists is yet to be confirmed but so far Alex Lloyd, Marisa Jimenez, Luca Nardella, Olivia Fayne and Keith Burke have all been signed up.
It’s an interesting development that shows how high-end retailers are increasingly prepared to embrace product and services that might not have been on their radar just a few years ago. It also underlines the ongoing appeal of tattoo and piercing culture beyond short-term trends and price-wise is a perfect fit for the luxury store given the high cost of bespoke tattooing.
Harvey Nichols’ Manchester GM Gavin Hudson said that Debut Studios’ “trusted approach and commitment to high-quality experience aligns perfectly with the beauty services offer in-store”.
