Moschino is celebrating its 40th anniversary in style. The Italian luxury house owned by the Aeffe fashion group has announced a special show on September 21 during the Milan Women's Fashion Week. Without a creative director since the departure of Jeremy Scott last March, it has called on four of today's most influential designers for the occasion: Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, Katie Grand, Gabriella Karefa-Johnson and Lucia Liu.

Each will create ten silhouettes inspired by the work of Franco Moschino, who founded his house in Milan in 1983 with an ironic and caustic spirit. They will design a brand new collection for spring-summer 2024. "The event will be a tribute to the founder Franco Moschino and his priceless legacy," says the brand in a press release.
Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, or C.C.D. to her friends, was the first to mix streetwear with couture in the 1980s, working for Vogue, among others, but also with Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel, Azzedine Alaïa and Jeremy Scott at Moschino.
British designer Katie Grand, known for her eccentric pop aesthetic, has worked with some of the biggest names in fashion, from Louis Vuitton to Prada and Bottega Veneta. The African-American Gabriella Karefa-Johnson is especially active in the fashion press, from Garage magazine to Vogue USA, while Lucia Liu is one of the most coveted designers in China.
Whether by chance or coincidence, it was just after the brand's 30th anniversary show, on September 21, 2013, that Jeremy Scott arrived at the house, succeeding Rossella Jardini, Franco Moschino's right-hand woman, who had taken over after the designer's death in 1994. A decade later, history seems to be repeating itself. Jeremy Scott's successor has yet to be announced, but Moschino may unveil the name after its September event. General manager Stefano Secchi also left the company last March.
The Aeffe group has big ambitions for its flagship brand, which now accounts for 78% of its total sales and achieved sales of €273.3 million last year. In 2021, it will take full control of Moschino by acquiring the 30% stake it was missing, and will take over direct distribution of the label in China.
