KENZO'S NEW SNEAKERS PROMISE A BRIGHT FUTURE
NIGO’s streetwear influences are more and more prominent on Kenzo’s runway. Ultimately, the Japanese designer has been putting his sneaker expertise into practice at the Japanese brand. We’ve seen running silhouettes, tournament sneakers, and slip-on trainers. Now, he brings a luxurious basketball kick to the Kenzo Sneaker collection.
NIGO has been a die-hard fan of the court silhouette, and his archive at BAPE confirms it. For its first sneaker in 2002, the Bapesta, he pulled elements from the iconic Nike Air Force 1, and its hype keeps rising in today’s fashion scene. Since 2002, NIGO has been hard at work following up the Bapesta with a slew of hyped releases, gaining a position as one of the luxury streetwear pioneers. It makes sense that the designer’s footwear design skills had to feature at Kenzo, too.
Composed mainly of full-grain leather, these high-top sneakers feature a rubber sole unit and rubber toe caps. The kicks feature a front lace-up and a velcro ankle strap. As for its detailing, it has engraved metal toecaps, the “K” standing for Kenzo on the white panel, and the label’s logo at the heel tab. The blue and white colorway epitomizes a retro varsity vibe.
While Kenzo is not exactly known as a sneaker expert, with NIGO at the helm, we can expect a bright future for the label’s sneaker game. For all sneakerheads on the hunt for new luxurious kicks, have a look at the latest Kenzo Sneaker collection, and pick your player.
